The site is a Jekyll + Minimal Mistakes church website for Glorify the Name of Jesus International Church.
The project is intended for long-term public launch and future admin maintenance.
The permanent domain target is gjchurch.org.et.
The site has already been successfully built on Netlify with the current config.
Important design requirements
Do not redesign the site.
Do not replace the Minimal Mistakes theme.
Keep the site mobile-friendly.
Preserve the church branding and existing structure.
Keep social media links active.
Keep the Events section easy for staff to update.
Content and feature work already complete
Launch-ready church copy and structure in English.
Branch pages for Hayat 49 and Gelan, with location info support and embedded maps.
Giving section and giving page with centralized giving data.
Vision & Future Development page.
Admin-guide page written for non-technical church staff.
Header submenu support added for main navigation and fixed for desktop/mobile use.
Language menu converted to a Translate trigger to keep the bilingual feature hidden while it is still under development.
Footer Linktree removed.
Search/discovery preparation added.
Google Translate fallback enabled as a visible public translation option.
Multilingual status
Native Minimal Mistakes locale structure is enabled for English and Amharic.
Amharic pages were created under _pages/am and are intended to mirror the English site.
The main navigation now includes a Translate action instead of exposing the hidden bilingual switch.
A visible Google Translate fallback is enabled as a practical translation option for the public site while native bilingual content continues to develop.
Important notes for future agents
Prefer small, targeted updates over large redesigns.
Keep the site content church-appropriate and simple for ongoing staff maintenance.
If a page is added or removed, also update navigation and any related content references.
The translate action should remain the visible language option until the full bilingual feature is ready.
For translation work, keep the native locale pages as the primary solution and use the Google Translate widget as a fallback/utility feature.
The project is still intended to support future bilingual growth beyond the existing Amharic pages.
Active next priorities
Confirm the public site works cleanly in production after the latest menu and map fixes.
Review the English and Amharic content for wording consistency.
Add final polish to navigation, branch info, and public call-to-action links.
Prepare for a final public launch checklist once the church approves the content.
